Landscape with Invisible Hand is a 2023 American science fiction comedy-drama film written and directed by Cory Finley, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by M. T. Anderson.
The film stars Kynan Lonsdale as Chug, a teenager who works at a restaurant with his father (Jay R. Ferguson). When an alien species arrives on Earth, they take over the government and establish a new economic system.
Under the aliens' new system, humans are only allowed to work for a limited number of hours each week. As a result, many people are unemployed. Chug's father is one of them, and he soon becomes depressed and withdrawn.
Chug is determined to help his family, so he comes up with a plan to sell food and other goods on the black market. He starts by selling food to his neighbors, but he soon expands his operation to include other goods.
Chug's business is successful, and he soon becomes very wealthy. However, his success does not come without a price. He is constantly harassed by the alien authorities, and he is always living in fear of being caught.
