"Species II" is a 1998 science fiction horror film and the sequel to the 1995 film "Species." Directed by Peter Medak, the movie features a cast including Natasha Henstridge, Michael Madsen, Marg Helgenberger, James Cromwell, and Justin Lazard.
The storyline of "Species II" continues the concept introduced in the first film. Astronaut Patrick Ross, portrayed by Justin Lazard, becomes infected with alien DNA during a mission to Mars. Upon his return to Earth, he starts transforming into an alien-human hybrid with a strong drive to procreate. His rapidly evolving condition poses a threat to humanity as he seeks to mate and spread the extraterrestrial species.
Once again, a team of experts led by Dr. Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) is assembled to deal with the alien threat. This team includes characters played by Michael Madsen, Mykelti Williamson, and George Dzundza. Natasha Henstridge reprises her role as Sil, the hybrid from the first film.
"Species II" received mixed reviews from critics and did not achieve the same level of success as the original film. Despite its commercial performance, the film is often regarded as a less successful installment in the "Species" franchise. Subsequent sequels followed, including "Species III" (2004) and "Species: The Awakening" (2007).
