The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world known as the badlands, following a major earthquake that transforms Seoul into an apocalyptic wasteland. In this lawless land, a group of skilled hunters, known as the "badland hunters", emerges as the last line of defense against ruthless bandits and mutant creatures. Led by the formidable duo of Nam San (played by Ma Dong-seok) and Choi Ji-wan (played by Lee Jun-young), the hunters navigate the desolate wastelands, scavenging for resources to sustain their struggling village.
The plot thickens when a mysterious gang kidnaps Su-na (played by Roh Jeong-eui), a beloved member of the community. The "hunters" embark on a perilous journey to rescue her, unveiling a sinister plot by a rogue scientist, Dr. Yang Gi-su (played by Lee Hee-joon). Driven by a quest for immortality, Gi-su conducts dangerous experiments, turning captured villagers into mutants.
The film is a sequel to "Concrete Utopia" and takes up the story post-earthquake transformation of Seoul. It is an original Netflix production and was released on January 26, 2024.
