The film was produced by Roger Fritz, Harald A. Hoeller, Luciano Martino, and Alfredo Mirabile. It was distributed by Alpha Film.

Madame Bovary (1969) is considered an Italian-West German co-production. It was released in Italy under the titles *Madame Bovary* and *I peccati di Madame Bovary*, while the German title was *Die nackte Bovary*.
