Sinkhole is a 2021 South Korean disaster comedy film directed by Kim Ji-hoon.
The film stars Cha Seung-won, Kim Sung-kyun, Lee Kwang-soo, and Kim Hye-jun.
The story revolves around an average man named Park Dong-won who, after 11 years of hard work, finally purchases a house for his family. During their housewarming party, a heavy downpour creates an enormous sinkhole that swallows the house, with the family and their friends still inside.
The film explores the predicament of the characters as they find themselves trapped 500 meters underground. With a production cost of ₩15 billion, Sinkhole was initially slated for release during the 2020 Chuseok holidays but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sinkhole had its world premiere at the 74th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on August 6, 2021, and was released in South Korean theaters on August 11, 2021. It became the fastest Korean film of 2021 to surpass 1 million admissions within six days of its release.
