Colors of Evil: Red (original Polish title: Kolory zła. Czerwień) is a 2024 Polish crime thriller film directed by Adrian Panek.
The film follows a prosecutor named Leopold Bilski (played by Jakub Gierszał) who teams up with the mother of a murdered girl, Helena Bogucka (Maja Ostaszewska), to investigate a series of killings that may be connected to a 20-year-old cold case.
The story begins when the body of a young woman named Monika Bogucka (Zofia Jastrzębska) is found on a beach, with her lips mutilated in a manner similar to an unsolved murder from 15 years earlier. As Bilski delves into the case, he discovers a pattern of missing and murdered women over the past two decades, all connected to a local crime boss.
Despite pressure from his superiors to close the case, Bilski is determined to uncover the truth, even if it means challenging the corruption within the judicial system. The film explores themes of misogyny, police misconduct, and the lengths a mother will go to seek justice for her daughter.
Colors of Evil: Red is based on the 2019 novel Czerwień by Małgorzata Oliwia Sobczak. It has received mixed reviews, with some critics praising the performances and the film's dark, gritty atmosphere, while others found the plot predictable and the violence gratuitous. The film was released on Netflix on May 29, 2024.
