Red Riding Hood is a 2011 American romantic horror film directed by Catherine Hardwicke, loosely based on the folk tale "Little Red Riding Hood."
The film stars Amanda Seyfried as Valerie, a young woman torn between two men - Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), the woodcutter she loves, and the wealthy Henry (Max Irons) she is arranged to marry.
Set in a medieval village haunted by a werewolf, the story takes a dark turn when Valerie's sister is killed by the beast. Famed werewolf hunter Father Solomon (Gary Oldman) arrives to help the villagers kill the wolf, warning that it could be any one of them. As the death toll rises, Valerie begins to suspect the werewolf could be someone she loves.
The film features a Gothic, dreamlike atmosphere and explores themes of forbidden love and the dangers lurking in the dark forest. While Amanda Seyfried's performance was praised, the film received mixed reviews overall, with critics finding the script cliched and the lead actors uninspired.
Red Riding Hood was released in theaters on March 11, 2011 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Despite a production budget of $42 million, it grossed only $97.8 million worldwide. The film is a modern reimagining of the classic fairy tale, blending romance, horror and fantasy elements
