Summer Time Rendering (Japanese: サマータイムレンダ, Samā Taimu Renda) is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka.
The anime adaptation was produced by OLM and aired from April 15 to September 30, 2022, comprising 25 episodes. The series was directed by Ayumu Watanabe, with scripts overseen by Hiroshi Seko and character designs by Miki Matsumoto. The music was composed by Keiichi Okabe, Ryuichi Takada, and Keigo Hoashi at MONACA.
The plot centers around Shinpei Ajiro, who returns to his hometown on a remote island after the death of his childhood friend Ushio. As he investigates her mysterious death, he uncovers dark secrets about the island and its inhabitants, including supernatural elements involving "Shadows" that can replicate people. The story combines themes of mystery, suspense, and time travel as Shinpei navigates through various timelines to uncover the truth behind Ushio's death and the island's mysteries.
The series features two opening themes: "Hoshi ga Oyogu" (星が泳ぐ, "The Stars Swim") by Macaroni Enpitsu for the first half and "Natsuyume Noisy" (夏夢ノイジー) by Asaka for the second half. The ending themes include "Kaika" (回夏) by cadode and "Shitsuren Song Takusan Kiite Naite Bakari no Watashi wa Mō" (失恋ソング沢山聴いて 泣いてばかりの私はもう。) by Riria.
Summer Time Rendering received positive reviews for its intricate plot and animation quality. It was licensed for international release by Disney Platform Distribution and became available on Disney+ in various regions starting from May 2022. The series has garnered a dedicated fanbase and is noted for its engaging storytelling and character development. In addition to the anime, a visual novel titled Summer Time Rendering: Another Horizon was released in January 2023, further expanding the franchise's reach.
