Frogs (1972) is an American eco-horror film directed by George McCowan. It tells the story of Pickett Smith, a wildlife photographer who visits the estate of Jason Crockett, a wealthy but domineering patriarch celebrating his birthday with his family. Crockett despises nature and poisons animals on his property, but during the gathering, the family finds themselves attacked by various creatures—snakes, birds, lizards, insects, and, most notably, frogs.

The film suggests that nature is striking back against human abuse of the environment, making it one of the early examples of the “eco-horror” subgenre. Starring Ray Milland, Sam Elliott, and Joan Van Ark, the movie combines suspense with a strong environmental message. Released by American International Pictures in March 1972, it runs for 90 minutes and earned about $1.9 million at the box office.

Though not highly rated by critics (IMDb 4.5/10, Rotten Tomatoes 26/100), Frogs has become a cult classic for fans of 1970s horror, remembered for its campy tone and its unusual premise of animals turning against humans.
