Crusade in Jeans (2006), originally titled Kruistocht in spijkerbroek, is a Dutch-Belgian-German adventure fantasy film directed by Ben Sombogaart. It is based on the bestselling novel by Thea Beckman.
The story follows Dolf Vega, a 15-year-old boy from Rotterdam who accidentally travels back to the year 1212 using his mother’s experimental time machine. He finds himself in the midst of the Children’s Crusade, a historical movement where thousands of children set out to reclaim Jerusalem. Using his modern knowledge and skills, Dolf helps the children survive hardships, but he soon realizes the real danger lies within the crusade itself, as betrayal and manipulation threaten their mission.
The film stars Johnny Flynn as Dolf, alongside Stephanie Leonidas, Emily Watson, and Benno Fürmann. With a runtime of 130 minutes, it was released on November 15, 2006, and grossed about $4.8 million worldwide. It blends time-travel fantasy with historical drama, offering both adventure and moral lessons about leadership, trust, and responsibility
