White as Snow (2019), originally titled Blanche comme neige, is a French comedy-drama directed by Anne Fontaine. The film reimagines the Snow White fairy tale in a modern, sensual way.
The story follows Claire (Lou de Laâge), a young woman working at her late father’s hotel, now run by her domineering stepmother Maud (Isabelle Huppert). When Maud’s younger lover falls for Claire, jealousy drives Maud to plot against her. Escaping danger, Claire finds refuge on a farm, where she encounters seven very different men—her “princes.” Through these relationships, she experiences freedom, desire, and emotional growth, breaking away from her strict upbringing.
The film blends romance, comedy, and drama, with music by Bruno Coulais and production by Mandarin Films and Gaumont. It runs for 112 minutes and has modest ratings: 5.3/10 on IMDb and 35/100 on Rotten Tomatoes. While critics were divided, it was praised for Isabelle Huppert’s performance and its playful, feminist twist on the classic fairy tale
