“The Peacemaker” is a 1997 American political action thriller film directed by Mimi Leder. It marked the debut film for DreamWorks Pictures.
The story begins with the murder of the Bosnian Finance Minister, a moderate pushing for peace during the ongoing Yugoslav Wars. Meanwhile, in Russia, ten nuclear warheads belonging to an SS-18 Satan intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) are loaded onto a train for dismantling. However, Russian Army General Aleksandr Kodoroff, along with a rogue Spetznaz unit, hijacks nine warheads and sets them on a collision course with a passenger train. The detonation kills thousands of civilians and attracts the attention of the US government.
