A Thousand Words is a 2012 American fantasy comedy-drama film starring Eddie Murphy as Jack McCall, a fast-talking literary agent.
Directed and co-produced by Brian Robbins, the film was written by Steve Koren. The plot centers on Jack's encounter with New Age guru Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), after which a Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. Jack discovers that for every word he speaks, a leaf falls from the tree, and when the last leaf falls, he will die.
Forced to communicate non-verbally, Jack faces numerous challenges, including strained relationships with his wife Caroline (Kerry Washington) and his son, Tyler. With the help of his assistant Aaron Weisberger (Clark Duke), Jack attempts to break the curse by becoming a better person and mending his strained relationships. Ultimately, Jack realizes he needs to reconcile with his deceased father and forgives him, causing the tree's leaves to magically reappear. He then writes a book about his experience, titled A Thousand Words.
